Another forward is headed to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Forward Jussi Jokinen, who recently cleared waivers, was traded to Pittsburgh today for a conditional draft pick. Although Jokinen carries a $3 million cap hit for next season, the Hurricanes picked up a part of his salary. Ray Shero may have been interested in his services when he was on waivers, but his price scared many teams away. The fact that Shero convinced Carolina to pick up some of Jokinen’s salary makes it a good deal. If Jokinen plays in 25% of the Penguins’ playoff games and they make the Stanley Cup Finals, the Hurricanes will receive a seventh-round pick from Pittsburgh. Jokinen, 30, has registered 6 goals and 5 assists in 33 games this season for Carolina. His face-off percentage of 59.4% and 24 takeaways now leads the Penguins.
