The Pittsburgh Penguins made a couple of minor trades today, general manager Ray Shero announced. Pittsburgh sent forward Benn Ferriero to the New York Rangers for AHL All-Star forward Chad Kolarik. Ferriero, who was signed by the Penguins over the offseason, recorded 18 points in 34 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Kolarik, 26, has been having a great season in the AHL compiling 35 points (16 goals and 19 assists) in 41 games. That mark ties him for thirteenth in the AHL scoring race. 7 of his 16 goals have came on the power play. Kolarik will report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Shero was not done yet though. Shortly after the first trade was announced, the Penguins traded defenseman Carl Sneep to the Dallas Stars for a conditional draft pick. Sneep, a former second round pick of the Penguins, never got a good chance to compete in the NHL because of a logjam at his position. Sneep spent the majority of this season with the Wheeling Nailers, where he notched 15 points in 29 games. He also recorded a 12 plus-minus rating.
