Last Game for the Pens:  Thursday, October 3rd.  The Pens defeated the Devils 3-0 in their season and home opener.  The Penguins got goals from Chuck Kobasew, Sidney Crosby, and Craig Adams while Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 27 of the Devils’ shots.

Last Game for the Sabres:  Friday, October 4th.  The Sabres fell to the Ottawa Senators 1-0.  Ryan Miller stopped 44 of 45 shots.  He stopped all 10 of the Senators’ powerplay shots.

Last Time These Two Teams Met:  April 23, 2013.  The Sabres defeated the Penguins 4-2.  Thomas Vanek had 2 goals and an assist while Ryan Miller stopped 40 of 42 shots.  Chris Kunitz and Jarome Iginla had goals for the Penguins.  Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29 of 32 shots.

Story of the Game:  The Sabres come into this game with a record of 0-2.  Goal scoring has not come easy as Zemgus Girgensons is the only Sabre to find the back of the net so far.  Ryan Miller has been a steady presence, stopping 77 of 80 shots in the Sabres’ first two games.

For the Penguins, their season debut could not have gone any better.  They got secondary scoring from Chuck Kobasew and Craig Adams.  If Marc-Andre Fleury had any leftover anxiety from last year’s series against the Islanders he didn’t show it as he recorded the 24th shutout and 250th win of his career.

Pens All-Time Record Against the Sabres:  74-62-35-2

Sabres-Killer on the Pens:  Sidney Crosby has a 14 game scoring streak against the Sabres dating back to 2007-08.  He has 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points in that span.

Penguins-Killer on the Sabres:  Thomas Vanek has a 6 game points steak against the Penguins.  He has 9 points in that span.
