Pens Aquire Winnik

winnik.jpg.size.xxlarge.promoIt was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired 29 year-old forward Daniel Winnik form the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange, the Penguins gave up Zach Sill, a 2015 fourth-round draft pick, and a 2016 second-round draft pick.  For the cap geeks out there it’s important to note that the Leafs will retain 50% of Winnik’s 1.3 million dollar salary.

Winnik has seven goals, eighteen assists, and twenty-five points so far this season with the Leafs. This 6’2″  forward will add some much needed size to the bottom six of the Penguins, and also bolster the penalty kill unit. He is also an eight-year veteran of the league, playing previously for the Avalanche, Coyotes, Sharks, and Ducks.
