Pittsburgh Penguins GIF CAP: A Look Back At Daley And Hainsey

By Larry Snyder

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford likes to wheel-and-deal, and one of his best trades was in December 2015 when he acquired Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Trevor Daley for veteran Rob Scuderi.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defender claimed six goals and 16 assists for a total of 22 points in 53 contests for the Black and Gold before being sidelined by a fractured ankle in Game 4 of the National Hockey League Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The native of Toronto, Ontario contributed five goals and 14 assists over 56 matchups during the 2016-2017 campaign. Daley signed a three-year deal on Saturday, July 1, with the Detroit Red Wings.

Here is a look back at his run with the Pens during their back-to-back Stanley Cup championship runs.

Defenseman Ron Hainsey came to Pittsburgh when Rutherford sent a 2017 second-round draft pick and right-wing Danny Kristo in February 2017 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound d-man from Bolton, Connecticut helped in the playoffs with two goals and six assists over 25 games. He inked a two-year pact Saturday, July 1, with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Time to review Hainsey’s brief tenure with the Pens so the Boys of Winter could collect another Stanley Cup.
