Pittsburgh Penguins Trim Training Camp Roster

By Larry Snyder

The Pittsburgh Penguins disclosed Wednesday afternoon that they have pared their training camp roster down to 35 players.

The Black and Gold designated eight players to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. The first three were goaltender Tristan Jarry along with defensemen Barry Goers and Niclas Andersen. Among the five forwards were right wings Tyler Biggs, Anton Zlobin, and Josh Archibald, along with centers Dominik Simon and Matia Marcantuoni.

Additional changes that were announced involve these five players, center Dominik Uher and left wing Kael Mouillierat plus defensemen Will O’Neill, Reid McNeill and Steve Oleksy, who were placed on waivers. If all five clear waivers, they head to WBS Thursday afternoon at 12 noon.

The Pens released veteran left wing Tom Sestito from his professional tryout contract. The thought had been the Rome, New York native would bring some size and grit to Pittsburgh’s flock of forwards. He now becomes a free agent.

Mike Johnston’s crew meets the Detroit Red Wings at center ice tonight for their final home pre-season match-up. The puck at CONSOL Energy Center drops at 7 p.m.

Pittsburgh wraps up their 2015 pre-season schedule Friday by visiting the Carolina Hurricanes. The contest gets underway at 7 p.m.

The Black and Gold will cut a minimum of another 12 players to get under the 23-man roster limit and salary cap by the middle of next week. The season opens Wednesday, Oct. 7.
