GAME DAY REPORT: Game 38 – Penguins at Rangers

Published on April 3rd, 2013

The Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Madison Square Garden looking to erase the memories of a 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Ray Shero made a few moves before today’s trade deadline – one of which landed Jussi Jokinen from the Carolina Hurricanes. Jokinen will not dress for tonight’s game.

The new look New York Rangers come into tonights game just two points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with two games in hand on the New York Islanders. The Rangers are just 4-5-1 in their last ten games and have yet to win a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins all season. Will the Rangers hand the Penguins a second straight defeat tonight?

“They’re (NYR) changing pitchers on the fly here, so there are some difference challenges… There are some challenges of which we don’t know all the answers to.”
-Dan Bylsma

In the previous game between the Pens and Rangers, Evgeni Malkin had one goal and one assist. Malkin has 12 points (6G, 6A) over the last six games against the Rangers.

The Pens have outscored the Rangers 12-3 this season and shut out the Blueshirts twice. All three goals scored by the Rangers in the season series have come during the home opener at MSG.
