The Pittsburgh Penguins hope to continue momentum after a Game Two tilt that saw Pens captain, Sidney Crosby notch his second career post-season hat trick. Pittsburgh will once again be going with Tomas Vokoun between the pipes.
The Senators are adding a spark to their lineup, as they will have Jason Spezza back for tonight’s game. Spezza missed most of the regular season with a back injury. It’s his first game since January 27th after undergoing back surgery for a herniated disk.
“We’re expecting them to be pretty energized by their crowd and come out pretty hard. We have to find a way to match that intensity and set the tone ourselves.”
Notes and Numbers
Joe Vitale missed the morning practice. Replacing Vitale on the fourth line was Tanner Glass. Deryk Engelland was replaced by Mark Eaton as well. If Glass plays tonight, he’ll likely play the role of deterrent for Chris Neil if Eaton replaced Engelland in the lineup.
Jason Spezza has registered 42 points (16G, 26A) in 33 games against the Penguins in his career .
The Penguins are 10-2 in their last 12 playoff games against the Senators.
Pittsburgh’s Penalty Kill is seven-for-eight in the first two games.
The Pens have chased the opponents goalie in three of their eight playoff games.
Paul Martin is riding a four-game playoff point streak which is the longest of his career. Martin has already established playoff career highs in goals (2), assists (7), and points (9).
The Penguins have a 2-0 lead in a postseason series for the first time since 2009 when they led 2-0 against the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals.
