THE SCOOP: There are many players from the London Knights in this year’s draft class. One of them is center Bo Horvat, who could develop into a solid top-6 forward in the near future. Although Horvat will not score more goals than forwards such as Nathan MacKinnon, Horvat is one of the most complete players at his position in this year’s draft, according to Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus. After notching 61 points in 67 regular season games, Horvat performed at an even higher level in the postseason. His 23 points in 21 postseason games earned him the playoffs MVP honor and led the Knights to the Memorial Cup. In five Memorial Cup games, he registered two goals and five points. Horvat is a two-way center who has the ability to kill penalties and win big face-offs in addition to produce offensively. His playing style is very similar to that of Patrice Bergeron from the Boston Bruins. London’s assistant coach Dylan Hunter had this to say about Horvat: “Even when he shakes your hand, he’s got big ol’ mitts on him. He has a heavy shot. It’s a natural thing he’s got. Sometimes, you forget his age. It’s tough to knock him off the puck. It’s crazy to see at 18 because you usually grow into that muscle and he’s already got that strength. The older he gets, he’s just going to get stronger and it bodes him well for him at the next level.” Many “mini mock drafts” have been posted with the first fourteen picks of the NHL Draft, but none of them have Horvat in it. Expect Horvat to be taken in the later portion of the first round.
