Eric Staal, older brother of Jordan Staal, (DRINK!) will be missing some time with an apparent knee injury. Staal injured his knee during the World Championships and left the ice in severe pain after being hit knee-on-knee by Team Sweden’s Alex Edler.
Here’s a GIF of the play in which Staal was injured.
As you can tell, Staal was immediately on the ice clutching his knee, in severe pain after the hit. With the Olympic Games on the agenda, this is exactly the kind of thing owners will point to as to why they wouldn’t want their players competing in international tournaments.
Hurricane’s beat writer, Chip Alexander gave a run down on the injury.
GM Jim Rutherford says Staal is flying back to Raleigh tomorrow and undergo an MRI on Saturday. Still uncertain of severity of injury.

Raffi Torres + Suspensions = True Love
Raffi Torres received a nice little vacation for this.
Was it a result of the reputation? Maybe. It definitely wasn’t the worst hit Torres has ever laid out, nor was it the worst hit of these Stanley Cup Playoffs.
If Ovechkin’s name was Raffi Torres, he’d have some splainin’ to do… Speaking of Ovechkin, apparently he played with a fractured foot during the playoffs and the Worlds. **Yawn** Call me when he plays with a broken jaw.
Stoll to miss game two?
While Raffi Torres sits out the rest of the Sharks/Kings series, Jarret Stoll will likely miss at least Game Two as a result of the hit. Stoll didn’t return to Game One after the hit. Head Coach, Darryl Sutter thinks Stoll miss a significant length of time.
SIDNEY CROSBY’S A DIVER!!!
Errrr. We meant Marian Hossa’s a diver… We think. You be the judge.
We already know what Mike Babcock thinks.
