2013 NHL Free Agency: Live Blog

Over an hour since the last big signing, so that’s pretty much it for the live free agency blog.  Thanks for stopping by!  Here are a couple final ones. Nikolai Khabibulin has signed a 1 year deal with Chicago.  Jonathan Bernier has signed a 2 year deal with Toronto worth $2.9 million per year.

Boston has made a little flurry of minor signings: goalie Chad Johnson, defenseman Mike Moore, and forwards Bobby Robins and Nick Johnson.  Both Chad and Nick Johnson were Penguins’ prospects at one point.

Iginla’s contract has an interesting breakdown.  It’s a $1.8 million base salary with $3.7 million for a games played bonus and $500k for a goals bonus.

Matt Cooke has signed a 3 year deal with the Minnesota Wild for $2.5 million per year.  Good luck, Cooke.  Jarome Iginla has signed with the Boston Bruins…seriously – 1 year for $6 million.

Minnesota has traded Devin Setoguchi to Winnipeg for a 2014 2nd round pick.

The NY Rangers have signed Benoit Pouliot to a 1 year deal worth $1.3 million.

The Penguins have signed forwards Chris Conner, Andrew Ebbett, Bobby Farnham, and Nick Drazenovic all to 1 year, two-way contracts worth $550k at the NHL level.

Michael Ryder has signed a 2 year deal with the New Jersey Devils worth $3.5 million/yr.

Maxim Lapierre has signed a 2 year deal with the St. Louis Blues worth $1.1 million per year.

The Penguins have re-signed Craig Adams to a 2 year deal worth $700k per year.  Chicago is talking to Nikolai Khabibulin for a potential backup role.  Former Baby Pens forward Trevor Smith has signed with Toronto.  Anaheim has re-signed Saku Koivu to a 1 year deal worth $2.5 million.

All has gone quiet as teams and GMs continue to address the media.  Looks like this might go on hiatus for a little bit.  Check back later tonight  and I’ll post updates if there are any.  Thanks for following along!

Edmonton has signed left winger Ryan Hamilton to a 2 year deal.  The Rangers have signed defenseman Aaron Johnson to a 1 year, $600k deal.  Dave Molinari is reporting that the Penguins do not have Dan Cleary on their free agent list.

Toronto has signed defenseman TJ Brennan for 1 year, $600k.

The Kings have signed defenseman Jeff Schultz to a 1 year, $700k deal.  Meanwhile, Vancouver has signed former Kings forward Brad Richardson to a 2 year deal worth $1.15 million per year.

A few press conferences are going on right now, so things have slowed to a crawl.  Shero is about to begin his now (25 minutes late).  Other rumors around the league: Michael Ryder still deciding between NJ and Boston. Supposedly NJ is offering more money and years.  The Kings and Bruins are both talking to Dustin Penner.  Rumors continue to persist that the Penguins are talking to Dan Cleary.

From the Shero presser (paraphrased from reporter’s tweets):  Shero says that teams don’t have to be under the cap ceiling until the regular season starts.  He also admits that he made a mistake in letting Scuderi go after 2009.  He calls Scuderi a great potential partner for Letang and a great complement for almost anybody.  He still has an interest in looking at Craig Adams.

It’s being reported that Crosby has contacted Daniel Cleary about playing in Pittsburgh…we know how that usually turns out.

Montreal has acquired George Parros from Florida for Philippe Lefebvre and a 2014 7th round pick.

Craig Custance of ESPN is reporting that the Penguins are talking to Daniel Cleary of the Red Wings.

Travis Hamonic has signed a 7 year deal to stay with the Islanders.   He was a restricted free agent.  The deal is worth $3.85 million per year.

Eric Nystrom’s deal in Nashville is 4 years, $2.5 million per year.  Yannick Weber has signed in Vancouver for 1 year, $650k.  Anaheim is talking to Derek Roy.

Ottawa has acquired Bobby Ryan from Anaheim for Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen, and a 2014 1st round pick.

Dominic Moore has signed a 1 year deal for $1 million with the New York Rangers.  Anton Khudobin has signed with Carolina for 1 year, $800k.  The Bruins are now talking to Jarome Iginla.  Seriously.  Also, Bruce Garrioch is saying the Senators have acquired Bobby Ryan.

Carolina is talking to Bruins backup goalie Anton Khudobin.

Former Dallas forward Eric Nystrom has signed in Nashville.  Valtteri Filppula gets a 5 year deal for $5 mil/yr. with Tampa Bay.

Among the rumors out there right now: Vancouver is looking into Craig Adams and Detroit is looking at Brenden Morrow.  Tampa Bay is interested in Valtteri Filppula, as is St. Louis.

Nashville has signed goalie Carter Hutton to a 1 year deal.  Edmonton has signed center Keith Acton to a 2 year deal.

Michael Ryder is deciding between Boston and New Jersey.  The deal for Matt Hendricks in Nashville is 4 years, $1.85 million per year.  Dallas has signed goalie Dan Ellis to a 2 year deal, $900k per year.

Things are slowing down a bit now.  Colorado has signed ex-Penguins prospect Nate Guenin to a 1 year, $600k deal.  Matt Hendricks joins the Nashville Predators.

Matt Cullen has signed a 2 year, $3.5 million per year deal with Nashville.  Detroit has signed Stephen Weiss to a 5 year deal worth $4.9 million per year.

Boyd Gordon’s deal with Edmonton was for 3 years, $3 million per year.

David Clarkson’s deal is 7 years, 5.25 mil. per year with Toronto.  He has a limited no-movement clause.

Viktor Stalberg’s deal with Nashville is 4 years, $3 million/yr.

David Clarkson’s deal isn’t finalized, but he’ll get 7 years in Toronto as they finish it up.  Nashville does sign both Viktor Stalberg and Matt Cullen.

Not a signing, but the Sharks have said they will use Brent Burns as a forward again to start next season.  Toronto signs Tyler Bozak to a 5 year deal worth $4.2 million per year.

Calgary has signed goaltender Kari Ramo to a 2 year deal worth $2.75 mil per year (Kiprusoff’s replacement?!).  Nashville is expected to land Viktor Stalberg and Matt Cullen.

Toronto is about to make a huge splash, finishing up a contract with Tyler Bozak and expected to sign David Clarkson.

Center Keith Aucoin has signed a 1 year deal with St. Louis for $625k.

New Jersey has signed Rotislav Olesz to a 1 year deal.  He had been bought out by Chicago.  Florida has signed defenseman Mike Mottau to a 1 year deal.  Michal Roszival has re-signed in Chicago for 2 years.

Former Ottawa Senator Jesse Winchester has agreed to a 1 yr deal with the Florida Panthers.   Minnesota has re-signed defenseman Jared Spurgeon to a 3 year deal worth $2.66 mil/yr.

The Flyers have signed goalie Yann Denis to a 1 year, 2-way deal.

Jesse Joensuu has signed a 2 year deal with Edmonton.  Calgary has acquired defenseman Kris Russell from the St. Louis Blues for a 5th rounder.  Calgary immediately signs him to a 1 year, $1.5 million deal.

As of 1:10pm, @HockeyMeesh is in twitter jail too.

Tyler Kennedy has signed a 2 year deal with San Jose worth $2.3 million per year.  The Sharks have also re-signed Scott Hannan to a 1 year deal worth $1 million.  Clarke McArthur has signed a 2 year deal with Ottawa, worth $3.25 million per year.

Clarke McArthur is reportedly close to a deal with Ottawa.  Pittsburgh has signed Rob Scuderi to a 4 year deal worth $3.375 mil/yr. (I’ll do a full thoughts post on this tonight).  Scuderi also has a limited no-movement clause.

Nathan Horton has agreed to a 7 year deal with Columbus worth $5.3 million per year.  Rob Scuderi is supposedly between Toronto and Pittsburgh.  Ryane Clowe has signed a 5 year deal, $4.85 million/yr. with New Jersey.  Pierre-Marc Bouchard has signed a 1 year, $2 million deal with the New York Islanders.

Rob Scuderi has narrowed his choices down to 2 Eastern Conference teams according to his agent.  Jarome Iginla is in talks with the Kings.

Mike Ribeiro’s deal with Phoenix is for 4 years, $5.5 million/yr.  He has a partial no-movement clause as well.  Just an odd FYI: Ribeiro is 33 and his salary goes up every year (4.5, 5.5, 6, 6)…interesting decision by Phoenix.

Former Ottawa Senator Andre Benoit has signed with Colorado for 1 year, $900k.

Edmonton has signed Boyd Gordon to a 3 year deal.  Edmonton has also signed goalie Jason LaBarbera to a 1 year deal.  Phoenix has signed Mike Ribeiro to a multi-year deal.  Michal Handzus has agreed to terms on a 1 year deal with Chicago.

Pierre LeBrun is reporting Scuderi is likely Pittsburgh-bound, but the deal isn’t done yet.

Frazer McLaren has re-signed with the Leafs for 2 years, $700k per year.  That should be worth a few fights.

Rob Scuderi is expected to make a decision soon.  The Penguins are certainly in the mix at least.

Defenseman Mike Komisarek, who was bought out by Toronto, has signed a 1 year, $700k deal with Carolina.  Great deal for the Hurricanes who need depth on defense and take a very cheap gamble with Komisarek.

The Red Wings are currently pursuing center Stephen Weiss from Florida.

Rob Rossi is reporting that there is nothing going on between the Penguins and MacArthur…

Goaltender Thomas Greiss has signed a 1 year deal with Phoenix for $750k.

Edmonton is working hard to sign Boyd Gordon from Phoenix according to Bob McKenzie.  Phoenix is going hard after Mike Ribeiro as well right now.

Joey Crabb has signed a 2 year deal with Florida, $600k/yr.  Columbus has officially made a long-term *offer* to Nathan Horton.  Daniel Alfredsson has a 1 year deal with Detroit for $5.5 million (includes $2 mil in bonuses).

To update the Ray Emery Flyers contract from early. He will get 1 yr, $1.65 mil.

The Islanders have signed former Ottawa Senator Peter Regin to a 1 year deal worth $750k.  There are now rumors floating around that Clarke MacArthur is leaning towards the Penguins.

Edmonton has signed Andrew Ference for 4 years, $3.25 mil/yr.  Ference had 13 points in 48 games for Boston last year.  He is regarded as a great community and locker room guy.  It’s a great signing for Edmonton to help bring along their young team.  Also, Kyle Chipchura has re-signed in Phoenix.  He had 14 points in 46 games with Phoenix last season.  Edmonton rules themselves out of the David Clarkson race after the Ference deal.

Evgeni Nabokov has re-signed with the Islanders for 1 year, $3.25 million.  It’s a $500k raise after he went 23-11-7 with a .910 Save % and 2.50 GAA last season.

Free agency is underway!!  Make sure you tune in to the guys on the radio side as well:  http://thepensnation.com/tpn/the-pensnation-radio-show/tpnrs-free-agent-frenzy/

It looks like Ray Emery will join the Flyers and their goaltending carousel. The Fourth Period is reporting he’ll likely sign a 1 year deal.  Emery was 17-1 with Chicago last year with a 1.94 GAA and .922 Save %.  He could work very well in a split situation with Steve Mason.  Has Philly figured something out? Finally?

15 minutes to go until free agency gets underway and rumors are flying like crazy.  The latest being Rob Scuderi *possibly* to the Pens for $3 mil, 3-4 years (from Darren Dreger).  Buckle up for what could be a crazier day than anyone is anticipating.

Other news: Daniel Alfredsson has said he will not return to Ottawa.  Detroit is his likely destination.  Phoenix re-signs Lauri Korpikoski to a 4 year, 2.5 mil./yr.  Florida re-signs Shawn Matthias for 2 years, $1.75 mil/yr.

As I get this blog started, here are some of the moves that will be officially signed as of noon:

  • Pascal Dupuis remains in Pittsburgh for 4 years, $3.75 mil/yr.
