The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed Russian forward Sergei Plotnikov to a one-year entry-level contract.
The signing doesn’t come as a surprise as Plotnikov terminated his KHL contract with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. He earned 101 points in 159 games with the club. Plotnikov is no stranger to NHL talent, playing on Alexander Ovechkin’s wing at the 2015 IIHF World Championships this summer.
There are some questions surrounding Plotnikov, particularly his skating. But what he lacks in skating, he makes up for with a great shot and physical game. If he ends up on Evgeni Malkin’s wing, it would put Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis in the bottom-six – one move closer to filling out the Penguins’ forward depth.
Another great move by General Manager Jim Rutherford.
