While the NHL and the NHLPA continue to frustrate hockey fans around the world because of a lack of a new collective bargaining agreement, every person affiliated with the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs are even more frustrated today. The league is set to announce that the 2013 Winter Classic has been cancelled. The popular game was turning to into on of the NHL’s signature events every year, but will not happen for the first time since 2007. This year’s game was scheduled to be played on January 1st, 2013 at Michigan Stadium, which can hold over 109,000 fans. The event was projected to be the largest Winter Classic ever, but that will have to wait. Michigan Stadium will most likely host the next Winter Classic (2014 at the earliest) if the NHL and NHLPA can agree on a new deal.
