The city of Columbus, Ohio has not had much luck lately. After the Blue Jackets traded away their star in Rick Nash to the New York Rangers over the offseason, many fans did not know what the future of the team would be like. Regardless, the city was planning on having a long celebration of the game of hockey when they were awarded to host the 2013 NHL All-Star Game. That has now been lost as the NHL cancelled the matchup that was supposed to take place on January 27th at Nationwide Arena. The NHL and NHLPA still have not agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement.
In addition to the All-Star Game cancellation, the league also announced that all games from November 30th until December 14th have been postponed. That pushes the amount of cancelled regular season games to 423. The Winter Classic was also cancelled.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will miss seven games as a result of these cancellations. The list of games is below:
