NHL News: Islanders Will Move to Brooklyn in 2015

From the 2015-16 NHL season until 2040, the New York Islanders will not be playing in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. With the arena’s lease set to expire, the franchise will move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in 2015 as a 25-year deal was agreed upon. The Barclays Center, which just opened last month, can hold up to 14,500 fans for hockey games. That number is smaller than the 16,250 capacity that the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum could hold. However, the Barclays Center is obviously much more modern and already is the home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was on hand for the press conference and said that it will give the Islanders a bright future knowing that they will be staying in the state of New York.
