NHL Plans To Cancel Games Through December 30th

There will be no NHL hockey during the Christmas season in 2012 as the league plans to cancel all games through the 30th of December because of the lack of a new collective bargaining agreement. If there is a season, it will now be called the 2013 season instead of the 2012-13 season. These cancellations increase the number of total games lost to 526.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were scheduled to play six games before December 30th. Here is the list of the games that have now been postponed for the Penguins:

SAT DEC 15, 2012 PENGUINS JETS 7:00 PM
MON DEC 17, 2012 DEVILS PENGUINS 7:00 PM
FRI DEC 21, 2012 JETS PENGUINS 7:00 PM
SAT DEC 22, 2012 PENGUINS ISLANDERS 7:00 PM
THU DEC 27, 2012 RED WINGS PENGUINS 7:00 PM
SAT DEC 29, 2012 PENGUINS ISLANDERS 1:00 PM

That leaves the possibility that the Penguins will open the season on New Years Eve against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals at the CONSOL Energy Center. However, changes may be made to the schedule if a new deal is reached between the NHL and NHLPA. The two sides have been talking the past couple of days and are trying to schedule more meetings this week to possibly end the lockout. Stay tuned for more updates!
