UPDATE — 3:11 PM

The Deadline has passed and the final deals are trickling in. The Pens made one more deal.

PITTSBURGH GETS — D Ben Lovejoy

ANAHEIM GETS — D Simon Despres

We’re all familiar with Ben Lovejoy. He’s had a good run with the Ducks since being traded for a 5th round pick in 2014. This one feels incomplete. Despres was just starting to get a chance to show his promise this season. But the Penguins do still have Pouliot, Harrington and Dumoulin in their system.

Lovejoy is a right handed shot and he carries more experience with him now. He can move the puck and he’s not going to be an anchor for the Penguins.

But if Simon Despres starts to show any of that upside with the Ducks? That’s going to be a tough pill to swallow.

UPDATE — 1:34 PM

We have a trade to announce! Finally…

PITTSBURGH GETS — D Ian Cole

ST. LOUIS GETS — D Robert Bortuzzo and Pittsburgh 7th Round Draft Pick in 2016

Ian Cole

Cole is a 28 year-old 6’1 Left Shooting Defensemen. He is an RFA after this season and he’s currently making 900k.

He has played in parts of five NHL seasons and he has 4 goals, 5 assists for 9 points in 54 games this season. He’ll likely see time on the bottom pairing and could find himself mixed in to other situations. He’s a better possession defensemen than Bortuzzo, but the Penguins give up a little bit of size.

The Penguins are reportedly still working on adding depth at defense. Jim Rutherford doesn’t have many draft picks to work with and he’s on record saying that he doesn’t want to give up the young defensemen in the system. So expect more player for player deals like this if there’s to be anything.

One hour to go.
