The Evolution of The PensNation

Published on February 3rd, 2011

Hello everyone and welcome to the brand new home of The PensNation! Today is our one year anniversary! It is hard to believe how far this blog has come. To be honest, I did not know if it would ever make it this far. When I started this little blog I had on February 4, 2010, I did it to just post some things every once in a while. Before I knew it, I was posting a lot of articles by myself.

Here we are a year later with over 25,000 hits in one year. That may not seem like much to other Penguin blogs, but to me that is incredible for how this blog was being constructed in February-March 2010.

First off, I would like to thank every one of the writers that have contributed to this blog. Meghan, Dan, Nick, and Ashley: You guys have done a fantastic job and the site would not have had so much success without you. Also, big thanks for putting together this beautiful new site! I would also like to say thank you to the fans that we have out there! You guys are the reason we keep going. We love to connect with people, especially Pens fans. Please enjoy the new site and comment on all of our stories! We would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks, Andy Hughes (Founder of The PensNation)

Here is a time line to show the evolution of The PensNation:

February 4, 2010: The PensNation hit the web with a very generic look. The picture to the left is a re-creation of what it looked like on that day. The story was just rumors that I had found. It noted that the Penguins had interest in Ray Whitney, Alexei Ponikarovsky, and RJ Umberger. We all know how that eventually turned out.

May 19, 2010: The site looked the same as it did in February, but I added this picture below the title, The PensNation. Therefore, this could be considered as the first ever logo for the site. I also added Twitter and Facebook accounts for the site to help me report any news related to the Penguins. The only person involved with the blog at this point is me.

August 23, 2010: Dramatic changes were in store for The PensNation. The site got a complete makeover and a brand new logo. This look lasted until today, February 4, 2011. The logo and header was made by Travis Ulrich, of Ulrich design. He is a good friend of the site and I would like to thank him again for doing this! Check out his design business website at http://ulrichdesign.ca/

September 3, 2010: I announced that The PensNation was adding some writers to work with me. This was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Dan, Meghan, and Nick were all added to the mix that day and they continue to do great things here a year later.

December 4, 2010: We unveiled our first ever podcast on to the site. We will be doing another one very shortly. Nicole Tee, Joe Depto and Steve Mears have been among the guests we have had on them. We will be recording another one within the next week or so! Stay tuned!

January 18, 2011: I added another writer, Ashley. She was a big fan of the site and I noticed her passion for the game with all of her tweets on Twitter. I then asked her if she would come on board and she has taken advantage of the opportunity. She has done a fantastic job writing game recaps!

February 4, 2011: Here we are! A year later and we have expanded the site dramatically. A brand new look and a brand new URL. www.thepensnation.com is our new home! Be sure to check the site everyday for more updates!
